Robbery Definitions & Penalties
When a robbery charge is established, the surrounding circumstances of the alleged crime will be closely considered. There are a number of different kinds of robbery cases, but a vast majority of them fall into one of the categories listed below.
Some of the most common robbery classes are:
- Basic or "strong arm" robbery: a weapon does not need to be involved.
- Aggravated robbery: defined by the presence of a deadly weapon.
- Aggravated robbery of controlled substances: robbery of pharmacies or medical facilities.
These crimes are considered felonies and, as such, carry some of the more serious penalties. Aggravated robbery of a controlled substance is the most serious of these charges, carrying up to 24 years in prison and a million dollars in fines at a class 2 felony.
